Man Highlights Incorrect Practise Of Selling Paper Straw In Plastic Wrappers

Environmentalists have long condemned the use of non-biodegradable items, claiming that they endanger other living species and disrupt the overall ecosystem. As a result, individuals and organisations are beginning to reduce their use of plastic by opting for more biodegradable products.

With the same thought concerning the environment, a guy recently pointed out that paper straws still come in a plastic wrapper, which irritated most online users with his inconsiderate comment on the development process.

The Twitter user shared a picture of a paper straw covered with a thin plastic wrapper. He said, "Paper straw in a plastic wrapper. This in one snapshot is what is wrong with wokes."

This did not sit well with online users, who chastised him for ignoring society's progress towards sustainability."Hygiene plus moisture retention by paper straws is why it's in plastic. One highlighting facts wrote, "Beg to differ. The plastic is recyclable (polypropylene). Alternately, one can use plant based polymer, also known as PLA. The paper straw requires protection from elements and hence, plastic can't be done away with entirely. We need to be more responsible consumers."

Paper straws are once again the greatest alternative for a disposable straw to enjoy a beverage without creating plastic garbage that can stay in the environment for over 500 years (UNEP 2018). Yet, paper straws are not as durable as plastic straws and are often more expensive.
